Lake Osoyoos Sailing Club

Updated 26 NOV2009  DHE

Our club is located on the western shore of beautiful Lake Osoyoos in the south Okanagan Valley in spectacular British Columbia, Canada. We enjoy exceptional mountain views and the warmest lake in Canada.

Osoyoos is located in Canada's only desert and during summer months is often the warmest place in the country. This arid climate combined with hot sunny days has encouraged the development of many wineries within 30 minutes of the club. For club visitors the wine tours and tasting during summer months is an added bonus to a visit.

Easy access to town by a short walk leads visitors to a variety of stores for those wishing to shop.

The club recently completed a sponsored project to manufacture a fleet of sailing dingy’s for use by the members and participants in the sailing school operated by the club as it's contribution to the community of Osoyoos.

A varied social program is a staple in any sailing club and ours is no exception with a club house providing recreational space for meetings, social functions and workshops. Lockers for members are also part of the facility when available.

The club building is the old railway station, moved to it's present site on waterfront parkland leased from the town of Osoyoos and refurbished to it's current form.

Membership is open to all, and we encourage those interested in sailing to drop by and meet us on a casual basis. We offer excellent parking facilities, showers, a workshop and a kitchen. To those interested in wind sports other than sail boats, Board and Kite sailing is gaining interest amongst the members and we invite anyone interested in these sports to consider joining us. We recently welcomed the Roaring Fourties Kite Boarders to our group.

Lake Osoyoos Sailing Club was founded in 1968 and currently has approximately 60 members who finance the clubs activities through annual memberships. We are pleased to host various sailing events at the club each year. The schedule is usually posted on the club bulletin board. Racing is normally a part of club life and we have a fleet of Sea Spray and Hobie catamarans.  In addition, we have several Lasers, a couple of Flying Juniors and a one design dingy fleet available for pleasure use by our members when not in use by the sailing classes. We are hopeful that in 2009 a regular racing schedule will be available for those wishing to compete
